Powerful turbocharged engine; luxurious cockpit; excellent handling; incredible styling.
With such a beautiful design, one could be forgiven for thinking the new Vantage is all show and no go, but that assumption would be wrong. The Aston Martin Vantage is powered by a brand-new 4.0L V8 engine fed by twin turbochargers. This combination is enough to make 503 horsepower which is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Aston expects to release a manual version in the next year or two, but for now, the 8-speed is ultra-responsive and can be shifted via paddles behind the steering wheel. With this combination, Aston Martin claims a 0-60 time of just 3.5 seconds for the new Vantage, making it a truly supercar fast.
Like many high-end manufacturers, Aston Martin doesn't offer separate trim models for the Vantage, instead allowing prospective buyers to customize their car in a huge variety of ways. Even in its most vanilla form, the Vantage comes with a beautiful interior featuring acres of Strathmore leather and Alcantara, a black leather steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, keyless start/stop, memory seats and an 8-inch LCD screen to house the navigation system.
Optional interior features include more aggressive sport seats, Caithness or Balmoral leather trimming, an embroidered headrest, ventilated seats, a park assist system, a premium audio system, a first aid kit and even an umbrella holder.
Outside, the Vantage comes on standard 20-inch wheels front and back, shod in sticky Pirelli P Zero tires. Optionally, buyers can add an exterior graphics pack, a rear diffuser in a variety of finishes, a choice of several grille colors, carbon fiber door handles, a variety of color options for the huge brake calipers, matte black exhaust tips and a carbon fiber engine cover among other things.
Several option packages are available, including a tech package that adds an interior touchpad, switches made of glass for the interior, the park assist system and a blind spot monitoring system. A comfort package adds heated seats that adjust in 16 different ways.
The Vantage got a complete redesign for 2018, replacing the aging outgoing model with a car that has a new engine and transmission as well as new body panels.. Despite the redesign, the 2019 Vantage maintains the mission of the old car as the point of entry into the Aston Martin lineup. It also remains the smallest and most aggressively extroverted car in their lineup, with a driving experience that is sportier than anything else offered by Aston Martin.
The Aston Martin Vantage is in competition with several higher end Porsche 911 models, most notably the 911 GT3, though it does still start at less than a 911 Turbo. However, it takes a sharp eye to distinguish those higher end Porsche 911s from their less expensive siblings, meaning that for the vast majority of people, the Aston will look far more unique and rare. If turning heads is the goal, the Vantage is nearly unmatched in this price range, with the Lamborghini Huracan costing much more than even the Porsche 911 Turbo. In addition to its rarity, the Aston Martin Vantage is just flat-out good-looking. The last generation was a tough act to follow as it was already one of the best-looking cars on the road. Aston have not disappointed with the redesign, as the new car is simply stunning to look at.
