Extraordinary luxury; comfort-oriented ride; extraordinary powertrain; all-wheel drive; customization options
Bentley's Flying Spur offers tremendous value in the ultra-luxury performance segment, and a big step up from such lower-priced competitors such as the BMW 7-series, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the Maserati Quattroporte. The next step up in Bentley's lineup, the Mulsanne, will cost an additional $100,000 over that of the Flying Spur just to get started.
This segment includes the Rolls-Royce Ghost and the Mercedes-Maybach S600, but only the Flying Spur provides the option to get Bentley's tradition of extreme luxury, total customization, an incredible powertrain and one of the most comfortable rides available anywhere.
For 2020, the four-door Bentley Flying Spur only comes with the powerful 6.0L W12 engine that makes 626 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, as is an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which helps thrust the large powerful sedan from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of over 200 mph. While the Flying Spur is quite heavy, weighing in at 5,372 pounds, it's not evident in the performance numbers.
The 3rd generation of the Flying Spur is offered in a single trim but balanced with an extensive amount of options available, including 17 exterior color choices.
For the Flying Spur, Bentley has spent time fine-tuning the comfort level of the car's ride. Everything from the height-adjustable air suspension with continuous dampening control to the active anti-roll bars and the suspension bushings have been improved to give a softer, more compliant ride. The active suspension is driver-tunable through the availability of four settings, from Comfort to Sport mode.
As would be expected in a sedan at this price, the Flying Spur comes packed with the latest in everything. The stereo itself is based around 650-watt sound system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, voice-activated navigation, Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth integration.
The Bentley interior receives exceptional comfort features including massaging front and rear seats, premium leather seats, Alcantara headliner, heated and cooled seats, multizone climate control with separate rear HVAC controls, power rear sun blinds.
Additional standard equipment and features on the luxury sedan include 21-inch alloy wheels, power folding heated mirrors, keyless entry with push button start, front and rear seat memory, front and rear parking sensors, rear collision warning and pedestrian detection warning.
The Flying Spur interior is available in an array of leather types and colors. Wood and leather trim just about every other surface. To say the options list is extensive is a dramatic understatement. Luxurious options for the large sedan include Panoramic glass sunroof, refrigerated bottle cooler, lambswool rugs, mood lighting, illuminating Flying B radiator Mascot and the graceful Bentley rotating display.
Other optional entertainment and convenience features include a Bentley Rear Entertainment, Bang & Olufsen sound system, NAIM audio system, welcome lighting, wireless phone charger and adaptive cruise control.
The Mulliner Driving Specification package includes leather headlining, diamond-stitched leather seats, exclusive paint schemes, 21-inch alloy wheels and Mulliner-specific trim throughout.
No fewer than eight different wheel options are available, in sizes ranging from 21-inch through 22-inch. High-performance Pirelli P-Zero tires are included no matter the wheel.
For 2020, the Bentley Flying Spur returns with a refreshed styling, sharing similar cues to the Continental GT, such as a larger grille with rising hood ornament and new refined LED matrix headlights. The new Flying Spur comes five inches longer than the previous iteration and comes with an updated infotainment system that comes with Bentley's signature rotating display. In classic Bentley fashion, there is a plethora of color possibilities and material options available for 2020.
