Small yet practical; standard all-wheel drive; cheeky styling; decent ground clearance; quick and efficient drivetrain
The Fiat 500X is available in four different trim levels: Pop, Trekking, Sport and Trekking Plus. Each trim is equipped with a 1.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels helping the 500X achieve 26 mpg combined gas mileage and plenty of acceleration for passing on the freeway.
Despite being the most basic trim, Pop models still come well equipped. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, remote start, a rearview camera, height-adjustable front seats, a fold-flat front passenger seat, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, a 7-inch touchscreen, dual USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, and a 6-speaker sound system. Options on the Pop include rear parking sensors, dual-pane power sunroof, automatic headlights and satellite radio.
The Trekking trim level adds a more rugged appearance with unique 17-inch wheels, foglamps, privacy glass, a 6-speaker Uconnect stereo and upgraded upholstery.
Trekking Plus models are sharpened up by matte-black wheels, LED headlamps, heated power leather-covered front seats, an upscaled dashboard and door panel materials, ambient interior lighting, navigation, automatic climate control and a heated windshield.
Sport models give the 500x a sleeker appearance with distinct, body colored front and rear fascias, along with body colored side moldings. The exterior also gets stripped of most of its brightwork, instead featuring dark finish exterior accents around the windows and on the mirror caps. 18-inch wheels come standard on sports models, while 19-inch aluminum wheels are optional. The interior of the Sport has also been spruced up with Alcantara highlights on the steering wheel and dash pad, as well as contrasting stitching on the steering wheel.
Popular individual options and advanced safety features are also available on the various 500X models. They include features such as automatic headlights, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a rear camera and parking sensors as well as an Advance Safety Package with blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, a lane departure warning and more.
The Fiat 500X continues into 2020 without too many changes. A new Sport model has been added to the lineup for this year, which Fiat hopes will sell to people who appreciate a more monochrome exterior appearance. In the Sport model, most of the body cladding normally seen on the 500X has been painted body color, while the interior also gets a sportier look with paddle shifters and Alcantara highlights. A new color dubbed Rovente Red is available for the exterior of the car, while a black roof has also been made optional across the range.
The 500X is similar in size to a subcompact hatch. As a result, the 500X saves on fuel and is easy to maneuver in the city, and parallel parking should be a snap with its short wheelbase. In addition to being smaller than most other crossovers, the 500X is a reasonably priced option as well.
